Affordable life insurance in minutes
SunLife Family Life Insurance provided by Scottish Friendly is affordable and straightforward life insurance. It provides life cover for a set number of years chosen by you and guarantees to pay out a set amount of money to your loved ones, if you died during that time.
It only takes a few minutes to apply online and if you're accepted, your cover will be in place straight away.
Family Life Insurance is open to all UK residents aged 18 – 59. There’s no need for a medical - your personal quote will be based on your answers to some health and lifestyle questions. It only takes a few minutes to apply online and get an instant decision.
Your monthly premium and the cash sum are fixed from day one, so you’ll always know where you stand. However this does mean that over time, inflation will reduce how much the cash sum will buy in the future.
It’s important to keep paying your premiums every month throughout the term, as if you stop, your cover will end and you won’t get anything back.

Mike and Julie
As a busy working mum with three boys under 10, Julie was always rushing around - going from a part-time job to the school run, playing taxi for the kids' afterschool clubs, managing a never-ending household to-do list and still finding time for family and friends.
When she and her husband Mike were given a rare weekend away alone as a gift from his parents, they had a long talk about their finances and Mike suggested Julie take out life insurance. The couple knew the huge difference she made to family life and so Julie decided to go a bit further and add Critical Illness Cover.
It was a terrible shock a few years later when Julie discovered a lump and was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a tough time for everyone but the money paid out by their critical illness policy helped in several ways.
It meant she could afford to get a taxi backwards and forwards to her chemo sessions and get some help with cleaning. Then, when she eventually had to go in for surgery, Mike was able to pay for a child minder who covered the school runs and gave the boys dinner before he got home from work.

Joint Family Life Insurance allows two people to be covered on one life insurance policy. The full cash sum can be paid out once during the term and this is when the first person dies. The policy would then end.
If you choose joint Family Life Insurance with Critical Illness Cover, 25% of the cash sum will be paid out if one of you is diagnosed with some cancers, or suffer a heart attack or stroke, during the term. Then, if either one of you dies during the rest of the term, the remaining 75% of the cash sum would be paid out.
The following example^ demonstrates how having joint Family Life Insurance might benefit you.
Sarah and David
When Sarah and David's youngest daughter Ella turned 13, it really hit home that they now had three growing teenagers on their hands and plenty of financial demands. Their older son Ben was about to start driving lessons, middle son Jack enjoyed an active social life and youngest Ella was into her books and after school clubs.
So Sarah and David had a proper look at their finances and, talked about how they'd manage if something happened to one of them and decided to take out joint life insurance.
Tragically, just three years later, David was involved in a car accident and, shortly after being taken into intensive care, he lost his fight for life. Sarah was devastated and, with three teenagers to bring up, she struggled to see how she would cope. It was some help that their life insurance policy meant Sarah received over £100,000, which really helped everyday life to go on at an incredibly painful time.
Now, with the help of friends and family, the couple's children still enjoy all of the things they loved when dad was alive - going to music festivals with friends, getting the coolest trainers and visiting their grandparents in Spain. Their youngest daughter Ella is studying for her GCSEs and is planning to do her A' Levels next. They have so much to live for - and Sarah is sure David would be proud of how they are making the best of life, although they miss him so much every day.
Dan and Natalie were together for 10 years before they decided to tie the knot - they'd been so busy buying their first home and starting a family that life cover was never a priority. But their changing situation made the couple pause for thought, and they started thinking about how the family would cope if anything happened to either of them.
Dan was already covered through a 'death in service' policy at work, but Natalie was mainly a stay-at-home mum and worked a few hours in a local pub, so she didn't have a policy through work. A single life insurance plan seemed like a sensible idea for her and they both felt much better once the policy was in place.
We never know what's around the corner and just five years into their marriage, one frosty winter's day, Dan received the heart-breaking news that Natalie had slipped, been knocked unconscious and had fallen into a coma. After just a few short days, Natalie sadly died, leaving Dan to look after their two children - Adam, seven, and Sophie, five.
During the difficult weeks and months that followed, Natalie's life insurance payout of £250,000 ensured that Dan was able to maintain the children's routine of after-school activities, and provide a little everyday stability. Although nothing could replace their mum, this financial buffer meant Dan didn't have to worry about meeting their everyday costs. It allowed family life to slowly settle into a new routine, helping to ease the financial burden and allow life to go on.
