Funeral Benefit Option

Help towards your funeral at no extra cost PLUS a £250 contribution from The Co-operative Funeralcare

£250 contibution from Co-operative funeralcareLike many of our customers you may be concerned about leaving loved ones with funeral costs. It’s completely understandable. So wouldn’t it be good if a sum of money could be used to pay directly towards your funeral, easing the financial burden on your loved ones at a difficult time?

With our Funeral Benefit Option you can use your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan to do just that, at no extra cost. What’s more, you’ll have the reassurance of knowing that The Co-operative Funeralcare, the UK’s largest Funeral Director*, will be there to provide expert guidance and care for your loved ones when they need it most.

As a thank you, The Co-operative Funeralcare will contribute an extra £250 which will be taken off the final cost of your funeral when the time comes.

How the Funeral Benefit Option works

  • You give us permission to pay the fixed cash sum from your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan directly to The Co-operative Funeralcare after your death, rather than to your estate. Arranging this is known as ‘charging’ your Plan and it won’t cost you a penny extra.
  • No arrangements are made with Funeral Benefit Option and the cash sum ‘charged’ could go towards a cremation funeral or a burial, giving you and your family flexibility.
  • The cash sum will then be deducted directly from the final cost of your funeral, along with the extra £250 Contribution from The Co-operative Funeralcare. Be aware that both the cash sum and the £250 Contribution are fixed and inflation will therefore reduce its value over time.
  • If the cost of the funeral is less than the cash sum and the £250 Contribution combined, the balance will be paid to your estate. However if the cost of the funeral is more than the combined amount, your loved ones will need to pay the balance to the Funeral Director.

You simply pay your premiums as usual

You simply pay your premiums into your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan as usual, and after two years you can be sure that a cash sum will be there to help pay directly towards your funeral.

If you were to die within the first two years, the full cash sum would not be payable. Instead, Sun Life Direct would pay your estate 1½ times the premiums paid in. If, however, your loved ones decide to use The Co-operative Funeralcare, they would still be entitled to the £250 Contribution as before.

Please be sure you can comfortably afford the Plan’s premium, as if you stop paying, the Plan would end and you wouldn’t get anything back. The Funeral Benefit Option and £250 Contribution would also no longer apply.
